We are seeking a motivated and hands-on Assistant Production Manager to join our team and develop the skills necessary to oversee our container and field-growing operations. This position offers an excellent opportunity for someone interested in horticulture, nursery production, and agricultural management to learn all aspects of a large-scale growing operation and advance into a leadership role.
Responsibilities & Training
The Assistant Production Manager will work closely with ownership and our production team while receiving training in:
- Overseeing and assisting with scheduling and daily production activities
- Planting, pruning, fertilizing, pest management, and irrigation of container-grown trees and shrubs
- Field production and crop management
- Monitoring plant health and overall crop quality
- Overseeing equipment maintenance and coordinating repairs as needed
- Assisting with production forecasting and planning
- Maintaining accurate inventory and availability counts for the sales department
- Attending industry trade shows, educational seminars, and training programs
- Taking on increasing responsibility as knowledge and experience develop
Qualifications
- Previous experience in horticulture, nursery production, landscaping, agriculture, or a related field preferred
- Strong interest in plants, horticulture, and nursery operations
- Hands-on, dependable, and willing to work outdoors in all seasons
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently while also being part of a team
- Strong communication skills
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is a preferred. Candidates who are not currently proficient in Spanish must be willing and able to independently develop Spanish-language communication skills necessary to effectively communicate with members of the production team
- Valid driver’s license required
