Director, Nursery Development

Position Summary:

The Director, Nursery Development provides leadership and management of growth and value-adding opportunities for PRT in forest seedling production. This position, reporting to the Vice President, Production will be involved in strategic planning of growth opportunities followed by all aspects of project management including operational and financial plans and execution of those plans. Growth opportunities for PRT include: adding nurseries through greenfield and brownfield projects, infrastructure work at existing sites, exploring and implementing automation and continuous improvement opportunities, and training nursery management teams on operational aspects of forest seedling production.

The location has some flexibility and could be located at one of PRT’s nurseries in: Vernon, BC or Grande Prairie, AB, or Pitt Meadows, BC.

Job Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

The ideal candidate will have:

o A bachelor’s degree or diploma in engineering, horticulture, agriculture or the equivalent combination of education and experience

o Five or more years of relevant experience in a leadership role of an agricultural operation

o Strong leadership skills with abilities in strategy development, project planning (operational and financial), and the ability to execute on those plans working with nursery management teams

o Experience in managing construction projects using subcontractors and in-house teams

o Strong planning, organization, and time management skills

o Strong computer skills with proficiency in Excel, Word, and, Outlook

o Knowledge and experience with Lean Manufacturing

o Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to travel internationally
