Job Description
The University of Vermont, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, is seeking a Greenhouse Facilities Director, with an anticipated start date of February 3, 2020, 1.0 FTE, exempt. The Greenhouse Facilities Director will provide leadership and direction for daily greenhouse operations and management at three greenhouse facilities. Supervise two greenhouse research technicians, five to seven student employees and two temporary greenhouse staff. Implement strategies to ensure excellent service and facilitation for research and teaching faculty with procedural, financial and infrastructure planning. Oversee and coordinate research activities, academic courses, experiential learning and plant production at all facilities. Curate two conservatories and specialized plant collections. Coordinate the use of materials and implement efficient daily operations. Generate income through bench space fees, plant production and rentals. Supervise laboratory safety, record-keeping and best practices for pest management. Collaborate with faculty to develop greenhouse policies, procedures and future planning. Communicate and collaborate with physical plant personnel to ensure the physical improvement and maintenance of facilities. Operate and problem solve mechanical equipment and computerized environment control systems. Develop and administer facilities' budget. Report and communicate with CALS Assistant Dean.

Desired qualifications include BS in Plant Science or related degree. Five years' experience as a facilities manager at a commercial or higher educational institution greenhouse. Previous experience in plant science research. Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills. Mechanical aptitude and experience with integrated environmental control computer systems. Vermont Pesticide Applicator Certification for Ornamental, Research and Demonstration. Be able to lift 40 lbs. Must have a current driver's license and vehicle. The University is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the institution.
