Job Description 



Oversee the creation and maintaining of high-quality landscapes. Perform tasks such as designing and ordering plants and oversee the planting and maintenance of flower beds in order to provide a beautiful oasis for our members and guests. Assist the grounds team in the creation and implementation of seasonal holiday displays.


Essential functions

·         Demonstrate flexibility and professionalism with members and guests.

·         Assist superintendent with landscape planning, budgeting, and ordering.

·         Plan and execute routine landscape maintenance operations such as watering, fertilizing, weeding, pruning, planting, and mulching.

·         Creative design of annual color beds and other landscape features.

·         Monitor, identify and perform treatment for pest and diseases and apply pesticides when necessary.

·         Assist Superintendent with management of Grounds and Roads staff.


Licenses and Special Requirements

·         North Carolina Pesticide License or ability to obtain within one year of hire.

·         Valid driver’s license.


Physical Demands and Work Environment

·         Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.

·         Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.

·         Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; extreme cold; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock; and vibration.

·         The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

·         Frequent lifting, bending, climbing, stooping, and pulling.

·         May need to use some protective equipment, such as a respirator, gloves, earplugs, eye guards/visors, boots, and hat.


Required education and experience

  • Associate degree in Horticulture or closely related field.
  • Thorough knowledge of plant materials and their cultural requirements for zone 8a.


Preferred education and experience

·         Certified Plant Professional certification is a plus but not required.

·         Two-years of Horticultural experience.

·         Knowledge of special growing requirements for the Sandhills region of North Carolina.
