We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Plant Health Manager to oversee our plant health initiatives at our Forest Grove, Oregon farm. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of the plant health department which includes pest control and irrigation operations, disease control, weed control, planting media management, fertilizer management, irrigation control assistance, and overall safety. This role requires a strong understanding of plant health and management systems, as well as the ability to lead a team in a fast-paced environment.
Duties
- Oversee irrigation & fertility systems
- Oversee pesticide applications and appropriate use of PPE
- Develop and implement effective strategies for growing quality plants and maintaining high-quality standards and assuring product is ready for market
- Oversee monthly inventory and ensure safe storage & disposal of chemical products and containers
- Regular tours with area leads to monitor & improve plant quality
- Weekly & monthly review and analysis of financial reports, key metrics, and accounting for variances
- Assist with annual budgetary development and able to manage within the approved budget throughout the year
- Train and supervise staff in best practices for plant health and necessary skills
- Manage personnel matters such as absenteeism and labor costs
- Monitor plant health and growth, addressing any issues that arise promptly
- Maintain a minimum number of licensed applicators on staff and onsite at any given time
- Maintain accurate records of plant growth, maintenance schedules, and staff performance.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless operations across the organization and network with Plant Health Managers in other locations, regional universities, organizations, vendors and agencies to incorporate new developments into site processes
- Responsible for facility Worker Protection Standard (WPS) and Global Harmonization System (GHS) compliance and training
- Responsible for regulatory reporting to all governmental and regulatory agencies with assistance from the General Manager
- Prepare for and participate in all local, county, state and federal regulatory or governmental inspections or actions
Qualifications
- Prior experience successfully managing a team, including evaluations, training, feedback and performance corrections
- Bachelors degree, or 1-2 years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Must have a valid drivers' license and a valid Private Pesticide Applicator license, or able to obtain within 6 months of employment
- Excellent leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage a diverse team.
- Effective communication skills both verbal and written; ability to communicate in Spanish is helpful but not mandatory
- Knowledge of Microsoft based platforms, including Excel, Word and Office
- Physical demands include frequent standing, walking, and sitting; use of hands; stooping, kneeling and crouching; able to lift/move up to 50 pounds; vision abilities including close, distance, color, peripheral and depth vision and able to adjust focus.
