Andalusia Historic House, Gardens, & Arboretum is a non-profit organization and scenic 50-acre property overlooking the Delaware River in Bensalem, PA. Established more than 225 years ago, the site is a natural paradise of preserved native woodlands and spectacular gardens, as well as a National Landmark building and museum displaying art and archives. Thousands of visitors explore Andalusia each year during tours, events, and educational programs.
Focused on creating beautiful spaces for the enjoyment of visitors, the Andalusia grounds are comprised of mature trees, formal and informal gardens, mixed perennial beds, a rose garden, cut flower gardens, expansive hedging, meadows, and pastures. The property also has a small greenhouse and solarium. Andalusia is a level II accredited arboretum with over 250 unique species and cultivars, as well as a member of America's Garden Capital.
Andalusia's garden aesthetic grew out of the English landscape tradition and has evolved to reflect the vision of many residents, staff, and gardeners over the past two centuries. The most recent additions were made by London-based designer Lady Arabella Lennox-Boyd. Andalusia became a Partner Garden of the Royal Horticulture Society in 2024 and won Partner Garden of the Year in the Overseas category. In 2025, Andalusia will begin a strategic partnership with Sissinghurst Castle Garden in Kent.
The Senior Horticulturist will contribute to the care, development, and design of Andalusia's gardens, joining a small team of full-time garden and grounds staff, plus additional seasonal employees. In addition, Andalusia borders a 40-acre property that was once part of the historic site, but which remains private today. This position will work in gardens on both the public and the private property, and will report to the Head Gardener.
