About Wenke Greenhouses: 

Wenke Greenhouses is a large, family owned, vertically integrated production greenhouse established over 70 years ago. We have four locations Kalamazoo, MI and a sister company in Douglas, GA. We grow and sell flowers year round. Our main crops are annual bedding plants and home-use vegetables. We have recently started to produce perennials and indoor plants. These crops are sold to garden centers, hardware stores and landscapers throughout the Midwest; the Kalamazoo Flower Group (broker), as well as starter plants to other growers. We also have a successful retail store servicing Kalamazoo. We are an industry leader; providing quality plants that make people happier and healthier. We are known for efficient production, being the easiest company to do business with and valuing our employees. 

 

Job Summary:

The Shipping and Operations Assistant is basically the understudy for the Shipping & Operations Manager who is responsible for inventory management, sales coordination, and the shipping process for all the products produced at the Millennium facility. 

Primary Responsibilities:

·         Transplant verification – confirm that the quantity started is correct and in the right location; address errors as needed

·         Availability – review the crop and determine when ready to sell. Update this information into the computer systems

·         Order input – convert the requests from the Kalamazoo Flower Group into the specific quantities and varieties for each order and time period while maintaining the right assortment

·         Organize the shipping information for the pullers, growers and drivers to ensure accurate and timely delivery

·         Communicate changes, problems and feedback with all involved

·         Train and supervise 5-20 people

·         Receive and organize supplies (labels, containers, etc…) for production

·         Assist with other departments and tasks as needed

General Schedule / work hours:

·         March-May – 60 plus hours per week. 6AM – 6 PM weekdays; weekend hours vary

·         June-February – 40 hours per week on average. 8 AM – 4 PM is basic schedule with some variability and some weekends

·         Detail oriented  

·         Supervisory skills that are positive & direct

·         Self-starter who is willing to ask questions and take responsibility

·         Efficient use of Excel, Outlook and ability to learn Wenke specific program called PICAS

·         Team oriented

·         Plant knowledge helpful

·         Ability to speak Spanish helpful

·         Ability to operate a forklift helpful

Compensation:

·         $18-$26 per hour depending on experience
