Job Description

Reporting to the Head Grower, this position will assist with all aspects of the production of quality plants. This includes working with the Assistant Growers and Greenhouse Crop Technicians to efficiently manage all quality control of product according to customer standards. This position is also responsible for organizing and assigning daily tasks in order of priority, in order to ensure work efficiency and timely task completion. This position must have constant communication with the Production supervisor and all other stakeholders. Continuous and proactive communication is vital to the success of the company.  

Primary Responsibilities

  • Review crop schedules and provide input on mapping and planning process
  • Manage all growth regulator/pesticide applications
  • Monitor IPM systems in greenhouses
  • Ensure that areas for new plantings are set up (lights, mist, curtains) when applicable
  • Responsible for the growing of plugs, rooted cuttings, potted plants, field-crops and maintenance of plants while meeting Spec & Standards
  • Maintain growing “best practices” established by the Head Grower and alert team of any changes; ensure “best practices” are always followed
  • Monitor plant and root health, while maintain shrink level to those established by the company
  • Develop and maintain irrigation schedule by variety and season
  • Develop strategies for using temperature control system and train team on how to use it
  • Inspection of all live plants entering and exiting the facility
  • Maintain records including: variety grow times and shrink reports, weekly report to the Head Grower and spray records
  • Responsible for overseeing all miscellaneous task such as; calibration, sanitize, cleaning and disinfecting of underground tanks
  • Openly and honestly communicate with all employees to build trust and effective teamwork as well as encourage employee involvement to achieve shared organizational objectives
  • Maintain good labor relations and provide fair, balance, performance feedback
  • Provide performance feedback to his team on a regular basis to encourage a motivated workforce
  • Effective team building, provide guidance/support to junior staff members
  • Ensure that all employee questions, suggestions and concerns are addressed in a timely manner
  • Encourage and support an open communication policy with all employees to establish and meet common objectives
  • Monitor daily activities to determine opportunities for improvement in productivity, efficiency and quality
  • On call to respond to alarms or greenhouse related emergencies, to be shared with other Growers
  • Provide a weekly/monthly activity report to Head Grower outlining activities, key challenges and cost efficiencies
  • Collaborate with company departments to ensure the smooth operational function
  • Recognize unsafe conditions and practices, and make corrections to prevent injuries and property loss
Job Requirements
• Bachelor’s Degree or higher, in Horticulture or similar
• Minimum 7 years’ experience as a Sr. Grower, must have propagation experience
• Willing to relocate to South Carolina (Gaffney-Spartanburg area)
• Proven ability to run a growing operation
• Proficient computer skills, especially Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications ie: Outlook, Word, PowerPoint
• Attention to detail
• Excellent communication and follow through skills
• Detail oriented and extremely organized
• Proven analytical, problem solving, negotiating and decision-making skills
• Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision, showing initiative, good judgement and superior decision-making skills
• Ability to work extended hours during peak seasons
• Ability to adapt in a quick and positive manner
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks and requests
• Flexibility with schedule - hours may vary and be able to work extended hours during peak harvest periods, weekends, Holidays
